Week 1- Pride and Prejudice (Before the read)

Jane Austen

Don Quixote- Saving it for the end…it’s intimidating to hold a book that long in your hand. Plus…I’ve tried and failed in the past to read it.

The Pilgrim’s Progress and Gulliver’s Travels- Read them

So, I guess that means I start with Pride and Prejudice.

And I must be honest…I really want to get this one out of the way. Granted, I’ve never read any Jane Austen, but I’m pretty sure I caught a few minutes of the movie on late night cable when I was a teenager. It was less than intriguing.

I feel like I’m about to enter a week long Life Time movie binge without the precious relief of Monistat7 and Special K (red berries) commercials. An endless amount of women jogging, shopping, crying, and tazing any male in their way. Except now the 80’s music will be left out and I’ll have to wade through 1800 English jargon and the female mind overcomplicated by tight corsets depriving the brain of oxygen…

Can you tell how excited I am. I’ve gathered in the past that this book should have undertones of sarcasm that point out how dumb and impractical polite society was in Regency England. I hope I can pick up on those subtle parts.

Let’s just say…I can’t wait till Friday, during which I’ll probably drink a 6 pack, kill a small woodland creature for the heck of it, and walk around in my underwear all day watching Spike and listening to David Allen Coe (the non-racist songs of course).

So without further ado…I submit to you my man card and promise to retrieve in 7 days.
